Hasbro is committed to eliminating plastic containers in all its toys and video games for children by 2022

We all know that plastic pollution is one of the biggest environmental problems we face. If we think a little about the whole amount of plastic that comes into our hands to later be discarded (known as single-use plastic), we can realize how it is everywhere.

One of the products in which more plastics can be found in its packaging or wrapping, are toys. Thus, The American company Hasbro promised to eliminate all plastic containers in its toys and video games for children by 2022.

Through a press release, the company announced that it will begin taking actions to eliminate the plastic elements of the new packaging of its products at the beginning of 2020, in order to virtually eliminate all plastics in the packaging of their new products by the end of the year 2022.

The company owns many brands and licenses of famous people, like Mr. Potato (Mr. Potato in Spain and Mr Potato Head in Latin America) My Little Pony, Star Wars, Disney princesses, Play-Doh, Baby Alive dolls, Power Rangers action figures, the Marvel universe and Transformers, as well as famous board games, such as Monopoly.

"Removing plastic from our packaging is the latest advance in our journey of more than a decade to create a more sustainable future for our business and our world"says Brian Goldner, president and CEO of Hasbro."We have an experienced and multifunctional team to manage the complexity of this and we will seek to actively involve employees, customers and partners as we continue to innovate and drive progress as a leader in sustainability.".

Is It is not the company's first measure to contribute to the environment by reducing the amount of plastics in its packaging, since for almost 10 years it eliminated certain elements of its packaging and since 2016 added labels that showed how consumers could recycle their packaging, while in 2018 it began using containers made of plant-based bioPET.

Recently, also announced a toy recycling program in conjunction with TerraCycle, a global company that specializes in recycling products that are usually considered non-recyclable. In the case of toys, when they are sent to the company they will be recycled to turn them into materials that are used in the construction of playgrounds, park benches and other similar uses.

Hasbro also recently announced the expansion of a toy recycling program in countries such as France, Germany and Brazil, and that they plan to continue doing so, in order that all countries in which their toys are bought can have that recycling option.

The company knows that redesigning all its packaging will be a complex task, but they consider it very important to do so and they trust that their equipment can eliminate them:

"We know that consumers share our commitment to protect the environment, and we want families to feel good knowing that our packaging will be virtually free of plastic and that our products can be easily recycled through our Toy Recycling Program"says John Frascotti, President and chief operating officer of Hasbro.

No doubt you are it's good news for both families and the environment, so hopefully more companies follow suit and soon all families have the option of recycling toys that are no longer available, as well as reducing the consumption of plastics at home.
