Wearing heels during pregnancy, yes or no?

The fact that a woman wears heels is one of the things that a server sees more inexplicable. They are uncomfortable, they walk badly with them and usually cause discomfort of various kinds both in the feet, in the legs and in the back. I do not see what, really, but as everyone has normalized its use and although it seems illogical, I see normal that a woman wear heels.

We all see them normal until we see that the woman is pregnant. Then it seems that the image collides and it is customary to hear criticism about it: "look at her, pregnant and in heels", "what a little unconscious", "should not, can not be used during pregnancy". How right are they, much or little? Or what is the same: wear heels during pregnancy, yes or no?

Yes, of course they can wear heels during pregnancy

Question answered: women can wear heels during pregnancy, that is that "during pregnancy you can't" is not correct. Another thing is that it is recommended, which is not for a pregnant woman or for a woman who is not. But focusing on pregnant women, let's see why it is better not to use them:

  • Increased danger of falls and kinks: Decrease the base on which you support your weight is to increase the risk of falling. If you are also at a time when the weight increases, the belly also and the legs can rotate a little outward by the volume of the uterus, the way of walking changes and it may not be a good idea to continue with the heels. In addition, the belly adds weight to the front of the body and the back has to do counterweight by pulling back. Come on, it is not the same to go with bellyless heels than to go with a belly and as the change is relatively fast, the risk of hurting yourself with heels is evident. It is more worth using a shoe rather flat or with little heel and that is comfortable.
  • They cause back pain: I have just explained that the abdominal weight increases considerably and that, consequently, it is compensated by throwing the back back. If we add some heels we modify the center of gravity forward again, requiring greater compensation by the woman, throwing the body further back to stand. This can cause backaches that you may not have or aggravate those you may already have (due to pregnancy, to always wear heels, to exercise poorly, to be very stressed, to ...).
  • Discomfort in case of swelling: During pregnancy some women suffer from swelling in the ankles and feet, the so-called edema. It does not happen to everyone, but it is annoying and the picture can be worse if you wear high heels, which are usually relatively tight and uncomfortable.

But many women use them!

As I understand it (I think I read it in a pregnant magazine) one in three pregnant women wear high heels. Is this sufficient argument to defend the use of heels in pregnancy? Obviously not. As the mothers say: "And if they throw themselves from a bridge, will you throw yourself too?" Even when all pregnant women walked with high heels, it would not be minimally recommended. We would see it normal for being something habitual, but it would still be better to wear flatter shoes, just as non-pregnant women would also go much better with flatter shoes.

Now, if a woman wants to use them, if her back does not hurt, if she is comfortable with them and feels stable and does not notice that she has more risk of falling with them, then go ahead.
