Pregnancy in HIV-positive women with in vitro fertilization without affecting the baby

It is already possible to try to have offspring even though one of the partners can be HIV positive. The Quirón Clinic in Bilbao has managed to develop two pregnancies in HIV-positive women through in vitro fertilization techniques. Prior to this data, the system was viable outside the Basque Country, from now on, couples who want to have a child and have the disease can access the services provided by the clinic.

The solution posed through the in vitro technique, is so far the most successful to try to avoid any infectious disease that may affect the future baby. Medicine advances and with it, the possible solutions that only a decade ago were unthinkable.

HIV has a high incidence in patients with fertile age, the fact that hope and quality of life has improved thanks to retroviral treatments, has changed the thinking and approach in those who suffer from the disease wishing to have a child.

The new reproductive options provide hope for infertile and non-infertile couples, so far the risk of infection in the future baby has been minimized, tomorrow, perhaps, this minimal risk is eradicated.
