The importance of early stimulation

The importance of early stimulation It is such that it is considered a basic requirement for the optimal development of the baby's brain, since it enhances their brain functions in all aspects (cognitive, linguistic, motor and social)

Our brain requires information that helps it develop. Its growth depends on the quantity, type and quality of stimuli it receives; capacities are not acquired only with the passage of time.

The baby needs to receive these stimuli daily, from the moment of birth. If it receives poor stimuli, irregularly or in insufficient quantity, the brain does not adequately develop its abilities at the pace and with the quality that one would expect. On the other hand, an early, abundant, periodic and good quality stimulation guarantees us an adequate rhythm in the process of acquiring different brain functions.

Early stimulation of children is more effective because their brain has greater plasticity; This makes connections between neurons more easily, quickly and efficiently.

Deficiencies or lack of stimulation in the first year of the baby's life can have consequences for the optimal development of his motor, cognitive, linguistic and social skills.

On many occasions, parents, even knowing and being aware of the importance of good early stimulation, often overlook some fundamental aspects, such as their general character (that is, they cover all areas of development and not focus only on one in particular), the abundance of stimuli or regularity over time.

Not only is it about reinforcing, for example, intellectual or linguistic aspects, but early stimulation must also cover the other areas (motor, sensory and social) of the child's development.

The brain of our children can process and acquire a whole series of knowledge through the systematic repetition of stimuli or simple exercises, commonly called information units or bits. In this way, what is done is to help reinforce the different neuronal areas (related to language, motor skills, intelligence ...)

The maximum neuronal development is between birth and the third year of life, and then gradually disappears until reaching the age of six, at which time the neuronal interconnections of the brain are already established and the learning mechanisms resemble those of an adult.

Our son is born with great potential and, so that this potential is developed to the fullest in the most appropriate and satisfactory way, we are in charge of taking advantage of that opportunity in its maturation process.

We can do all this by learning to read our baby's behavior, to respect his needs, to make him feel good and comfortable, to provide him with a healthy and balanced diet, to ensure that he leads a healthy life and, essentially, to play with him.

In conclusion, Early stimulation in babies is important as it takes advantage of the brain's capacity and plasticity in its benefit for the optimal development of the different areas. All this is achieved by providing a series of repetitive stimuli (through recreational activities), so that those brain functions that in the long run are of greater interest are enhanced.
