[Christmas Special]: holidays with children in Madrid

Families who plan to approach the city next Christmas holidays or stay in it, you will find a lot of things to do with children.

Without having to leave your pocket bare there are many interesting options for free or with very low rates with which we can have a great time without spending almost any money. Of course, there are also paid shows with prices for all tastes.

Among the things that you should not stop doing is walking the streets of downtown Madrid with your Christmas lighting. It is full of words of good wishes in whose creation several fashion designers such as Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Amaya Arzuaga, Juan Duyos or Francis Montesinos have collaborated.

Children get tired of walking too much, so a good option is to take the tour in the BusChristmas from Madrid where you would have to go on the ground floor or on the top floor with the little ones warmly sheltered. It works between 6 pm and 10 pm, it costs 1 euro for adults and children under 7 years old get free. It makes an itinerary through the streets that are illuminated and you can see some of the fir trees that have been specially decorated.

If you prefer to change your means of transport you can travel on the Christmas train, a historic train that will leave Atocha to the Railway Museum.

In the Royal Post Office You can visit a Bethlehem for free that will surprise children because it is huge. It is composed of no less than more than 400 figures made by hand.

Another one you will love to see is the World's largest nativity scene carved in ice which will be mounted in Madrid on ice in the Azca area, where the Picasso Tower is located. Children under 4 years are free, those from 4 to 12 years pay 6.50 euros while adults 9.50.

Speaking of births, you can also visit the one that has been installed in the depths of the aquarium of the Madrid zoo in the "house" of sharks. You also have to pay admission but it is worth it because you can see the rest of the animals.

Unmissable is the Christmas market which is installed every year in the Plaza Mayor with more than 100 stalls where we can buy some ornament or just look and admire.

Between December 21 and January 4 in the Plaza de Colón Gardens (except December 25 and January 1) the Madrid City Council will install the Children's City In a large tent where children can see theater, puppet shows, participate in workshops and storytelling.

On January 2,3 and 4 the royal mailmen will pick up the horses delivered to them by children on horseback and of course, on January 5 in the afternoon you can see the Great Cavalcade of Kings.

For those who are a little older, it can be very entertaining to go rollerblading. Ice skating rink which will install the City Council under the Christmas on the ice program.

As of December 21, it will open a 800 square meter track that will have a chocolate aroma on the esplanade of the King's Bridge next to the Manzanares River at the height of the Prince Pío station. Admission is free and they lend the skates, but if they do not dare to skate or are very small, there will also be several shows that you can consult in the program.

Now if paying much more, the billboard will be at that time full of children's shows to see. Some of the options are Beauty and the Beast at the Coliseum Theater, Christmas Traditions at the Victoria Theater and the Tweenies at the Haagen Dasz Theater.
