It is an undeniable reality that more and more births of children of immigrant parents are registered in Spain.
From those births of detach some curious aspects who have been able to observe the doctors of the Hospital de la Paz in Madrid compared to the births of Spanish babies.
According to the proven data, the weight of newborns of foreign mothers is greater than that of babies of Spanish mothers.
The difference is not too significant but it has been a constant: 100 grams more in boys and 50 grams in the case of girls.
Regarding the proportion of premature births, the figure is similar in both cases.
What does vary is the age of the mothers. In the case of foreigners, the average age at birth of the first child is 27.9 years, while that of the Spanish is 29.4 years.
Another big difference is the number of children. Only one in 100 Spaniards comes to bear their fourth child, while in the case of foreigners, they are 5 out of 100.
The weight may have to do with the food culture of each country. However, the difference in weight between babies is not that significant either.
As for the age of the mothers and the number of children, they are not new. Just another sample of the tendency of Spanish women to have fewer children and at increasingly advanced ages.
