The first sextuplets in the country's history are born in Costa Rica

Or at least the first in known history, since there was no documented birth in the country where six babies were born, as happened two days ago in Costa Rica, when they were born the most famous sextuplets of the moment.

I say famous because although it is likely that you do not know them, there they have been hearing about them for some time, what was the follow-up to the mother, what the preparations for childbirth, the large number of professionals who have mobilized for the event with the goal that everything went well, etc. Do you want to know more about these four boys and two girls? Well keep reading, we tell you his story.

But are they conceived naturally or by in vitro fertilization?

Surely you are asking yourself this question, which is the same one I asked myself when I heard about them for the first time. Of course, if they were conceived naturally, the miracle (or the event) is more impressive because it is a fruit of nature, but if we talk about in vitro fertilization, when the ovules are fertilized in a laboratory and then implanted in the mother's womb, the matter loses Pretty magic

Well, neither one thing nor the other. The couple had been married for ten years and had a baby who died at birth. They decided to choose to ask for professional help and this came by the simplest method, which would come after seeing that a pregnancy is not achieved naturally or if it is necessary to control some sperm factor before conception: artificial insemination.

As you probably know, this method is simply introduce sperm into women at the right time of ovulation, through specialized instruments, to solve the possible barriers or problems that are hindering pregnancy. Come on, the usual thing in case of insemination is to have a baby, because several eggs are not implanted or anything like that in vitro fertilization: only sperm is deposited and it is expected that it fertilizes the woman's egg . What happened in this case? Well, what nobody expected, instead of a baby, the gestation of six began.

How was everything

It all started in week 25, when they saw that it was necessary to control the pregnancy and when they started making preparations in the hospital, in order to care for the mother and the babies in the best way. The future birth became important at times and, as a funny anecdote, to say that the doctors chose to make a WhatsApp group to be permanently in touch and define the protocol. "The half dozen", they call him.

They created several care teams that would take care of the mother and each of the babies and in total they added up to 50 professionals who would be aware that everything went well, many of them helping in a selfless way. There was the mother, Silvia Villegas, 34, of 28 weeks when doctors considered it was time to act. Apparently, the space was already minimal, the uterus was already so dilated that they feared a break would occur, the mother had some difficulty breathing well and the babies could start competing with each other for available resources, so they believed they should do the caesarean section

The first to leave was a girl, who was accompanied by another sister and four brothers. The intervention lasted an hour and all babies weighed between 900 and 1,100 grams. To ensure their health, and since the first 72 hours are crucial, they chose to transfer them to other centers where they could receive maximum attention. Three stayed in the hospital where they were born, the Mexico Hospital, two moved to the Women's Hospital and one to the San Juan de Dios hospital. For the parents, obviously, it was a very hard separation, but the professionals decided to prioritize the health and survival of the babies and guarantee a personalized and complete attention to all of them.

Hopefully everything goes very well, that everyone can be together soon and that the six babies get ahead healthy and grow happy. Not every day are born children able to say that "my brothers and I beat the record of the most numerous birth in the country," so from here we send you our best wishes.
