Summary of tips for you to learn how to help your children prepare exams

Although November is not over yet, the Valencian Community is about to finish the first Assessment (we started classes in September a few days earlier than in other places) for elementary students.

This will be a very intense and hard week for the girl, who although she is still in Third Course, must learn to organize: it is a course that involves many changes for the students, and also do things with some foresight and perseverance, help when they are in high school.

We had already been through this with my son, but for many of you it is new, that is why I have thought about compiling many of the posts written so that you can help your children learn to study. I am aware of my limitations, so the contributions you want to make us are welcome (other methods I have not thought about, new study techniques, etc.)

I begin precisely by explaining a little what this cycle change is about, which also implies changes in the development of children, because they are no longer being small. I add this entry on the study in the Third and Fourth courses. With the LOMCE, the concept of academic cycles disappears, but since it has only been partially implemented, I allow myself the license to use the word sometimes.

Nowadays, the study can be complemented with many technological resources, but I think that while children have to express their learning on exams, the more classical way of studying is valid, while it helps to understand what is studied, beyond memorization. It would be a matter of knowing how to complement. For example, these days my daughter has completed a dossier about animals using knowledge books at home, for that job, it has helped her to consult more about paper, because she had it available, but also that she had lost a lot of time, because there were many concepts of driving at the same time (and he is only 8 years old).

And from the second cycle, we move on to the third, when children are closer to ESO. You can use these recommendations, and the explanation of the ELSER method, which can work from sixth grade, and according to the abilities of the children (let's not forget that at the end of the Stage, although they want to be great, they are not yet)

We have talked about exams, and maybe, when they have to face them, we should take into account this little Guide that we developed some time ago; but also how to take care of food when there are evaluation tests; and of course, how to deal with the anxiety they sometimes produce. By the way, it is a good abstraction exercise to reflect on how parents react when we see a suspense in the report card.

Y What about homework? it is a controversial issue where they exist, but today we don't want to enter into controversy; That is why I will limit myself to pointing out that children can become more effective if parents guide them (which is not the same as doing homework for them).

Study, but not only that

Children are not exclusively students, they are people who have age-specific needs: the game, socialize with equals, feel protected by the family, etc.

Sometimes we forgot , subjecting them to pressures outside the school - I am not a good example, although in my favor I can say that the complementary activities carried out by my children, one more than another, have been requested by themselves -. But in reality, the game is the best extracurricular activity, and It helps to distend and develop many skills difficult to reach by other means.

In addition, and as we commented the other day, the role of the family in the academic performance of children is decisive, and there are more and more voices that speak in that sense.

I would like to remember, the benefits that reading has for children, and its effects on learning; and I would also like to tell you (again) that reading them at night is a great way to bring literature to our children.

Finally, influence the role of night rest, for the global development of children (also when they are teenagers); and mention that sometimes there are difficulties in studying, which we must explore to help children of school age overcome them.

I hope you find this compilation useful, you will find much more related content in Peques and Más, but I have believed that all these posts, would be of interest to you.
